- My standard rate for articles is ZAR 2,50 a word, selling once-off area print rights (e.g. South Africa print rights; North American print rights) - with a premium of between ZAR 2,75 to ZAR 3,00 a word for articles with a short lead time or requiring expert knowledge and technical expertise.
- Rates for extended copyright for internet usage, exclusive use, or first rights are to be negotiated with the writer.
- Payment is expected on delivery of acceptable work - or as negotiated with the client.
- For new clients and large projects a good faith deposit might be required up front.
- Unless otherwise negotiated, the writer exerts her rights under South African (and other countries, where applicable) copyright law and retains copyright of all written work.
- Certain work - specifically copy writing and annual reports, and extending to writing projects with a low word count but high volume of work - will be charged per hour and not per word. My standard rate is R420 an hour, with premiums for work with a short lead time or requiring expert knowledge and technical expertise. For annual reports and copy writing, copyright passes to the client.
- Commercial Forensic Investigation and Reports are charged per hour.
